Air Conditioning & Handlers

How Does Your Air Conditioning System Keep You Comfortable?

Air conditioning systems use a refrigerant called freon to cool the air in your home. Freon is a colorless, odorless gas that has a very low boiling point. When freon boils, it absorbs heat from the surrounding air. This is how air conditioning systems can cool your home.

The Air Conditioning Cycle

The air conditioning cycle is a four-step process:

  1. The compressor compresses the freon gas, which increases its temperature.
  2. The hot freon gas then flows to the condenser, where it cools and condenses into a liquid.
  3. The liquid freon then flows to the expansion valve, which reduces its pressure and temperature.
  4. The cold freon liquid then flows to the evaporator coil, where it boils and absorbs heat from the air in your home.

The air conditioning cycle then repeats itself, continuously cooling the air in your home.

Freon Types

There are two main types of freon used in air conditioning systems: R-22 and R-410A. R-22 is the older type of freon, and it is being phased out due to its environmental impact. R-410A is the newer type of freon, and it is more environmentally friendly.

Upgrading Your Air Conditioner

If your HVAC system is over 10-12 years old, it likely uses R-22 freon. If you need to upgrade your air conditioner, be sure to choose a model that uses R-410A freon. R-410A freon is more environmentally friendly and energy efficient than R-22 freon.

AirRight, Inc. - Your Air Handler Experts

Your air handler is a crucial part of your home’s heating and cooling system. It’s responsible for circulating conditioned air throughout your home, ensuring that you’re comfortable year-round. That’s why it’s important to choose the right air handler for your needs and have it installed and serviced by a qualified professional.

AirRight, Inc. offers a wide range of air handler services, including:

Repairs: Our experienced technicians can diagnose and repair any problem with your air handler, regardless of the make or model.

Installation: We can help you choose the right air handler for your home and install it properly to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.

Maintenance: We offer regular maintenance plans to keep your air handler in top condition and extend its lifespan.

To ensure optimal performance and avoid high energy bills, proper installation and sealing of the air handler and accompanying duct work are essential. Additionally, the size of the air handler is just as important as its installation. This is why we specialize in variable-speed air handlers, which can save you money on your energy bills and improve your overall comfort.

Even a 1/2 Ton difference in size can improve your SEER rating by 1-2 points. In recent years, HVAC manufacturers have made significant advancements in air handler technology, particularly with "Variable Speed" models. These can further reduce energy costs by better controlling when and how hard the unit runs, ultimately increasing its life expectancy.
